Mr. Potato Head - First produced and released to the general public in 1952, the first Mr. Potato Head came with actual Moveable face features. It's quite hard to believe, but children were actually meant to use the pieces with a real potato. Regardless, the toy at the time generated over million dollars worth of sales, and in today's terms, that equates to over Billion. Quite an impressive release!

The Hula Hoop - In the first year of its release it sold over 50 million hoops worldwide. Quite impressive for a simple circular toy! How the hula hoop was first produced remains unknown but it was first brought to the commercial world by a company called Wham-o. This toy has one of the defining elements of the 1950's - probably one of the more famous 1950's toys.

The Frisbee - The Wham-o company got lucky again inventing the world famous Frisbee. First came to be in Bridgeport, Connecticut, students would toss pie plates and since they were aerodynamic, they would float through the air - the Frisbee was born! The company the proceeded to make fortunes marketing and selling the discs!

Silly Putty - Like most of the famous toys created, this toy was created by accident. One American scientist working on a world war two project discovered the toy completely by accident. He found the substance to bounce and be quite versatile. In the 1950's the putty got into the hands of toy owner Ruth Fallgater, who subsequently marketed the item and went on to make millions. It's hard to believe the 1950's created some of our most famous toys.
