American Standard Tubs: A Review of the American Standard Cambridge 5-Foot Bath Tub

American Standard Tubs: A Review of the American Standard Cambridge 5-Foot Bath Tub

I have been using products with known brands for my entire household. I uphold my principle of using quality tools and equipment in my home because I want everything to be long-lasting and beautiful as well. As I was searching for American Standard tubs online (which we all know is a great brand of fixtures), I came across the American Standard Cambridge 5-foot Bath Tub and at that moment, I knew I had found what I was looking for. So I wrote this review for all the people out there who were just like me - in search for a magnificent bath tub.

American Standard Tubs: A Review of the American Standard Cambridge 5-Foot Bath Tub

General Description

The bathtub is beautifully sculpted to match the bathroom perfectly. The installed size of the tub is 60'' x 32'' x 17.75'' and the maximum volume of water that it can carry is 50 gallons or 190 liters. The material of the tub is made of Americast, a trademark of the American Standard company, which bonds a high quality enamel surface with a high quality metal and a molded reinforcement material backing, and is a Lighter, more durable alternative to cast iron. This ensures that your tub is made of 100% safe, durable, and long-lasting material that is designed to resist any forms of abuse and maintain its good condition even after many years.

The porcelain finished body of the tub is made glossy, smooth, and designed to accommodate the human body for optimal bathing and comfortable positioning in the tub. It's also slip resistant so you won't have to worry about walking on the tub while wet. The porcelain finish is acid-resistant which makes it very secure to use even with harsh materials and you can be sure that the tub remains in good condition even with long-term constant weathering, abuse, and contact.

With American Standard tubs, you're really sure of the quality and durability of your household fixtures. I don't hesitate investing in such quality products because in the long-run, I actually get to save more money from buying one expensive but durable tub as compared to the many renovations and changes that I have to make when a lesser quality tub gets wrecked in my bathroom.

Product Features

The tub has an integrated non-slip surface which is designed to keep you safe inside the tub. You won't worry about slipping, which is an issue which I am greatly concerned about because I have three children at home and I don't want any of them having accidents because of a dysfunctional and incorrectly designed bath tub. The seat which is installed at the head end of the tub is ADA compliant, guaranteeing safety of use and optimal functionality. Who wouldn't want to bathe in such an elegantly designed and excellently engineered bathtub?

Other Features

The tub comes in five different colors: white for a perfectly clean finish, linen for a Light shade of beige, bone for a fleshy hue, arctic for a crisp and sharp whiteness, and black for a majestic and striking shade. I got the white one because it's very clean and it matches my bathroom perfectly. It's also easy to clean, and although some spots and stains may show, they're very easy to clean up because of the smooth finish of the tub.

Conclusion

If you're undergoing a renovation or building a new house, I have to suggest that you only use American Standard tubs for your home. You won't regret it because they are absolutely amazing. The American Standard Cambridge 5-foot Bath Tub is a perfect example of American Standard quality and it's really a fantastic model that you won't ever regret having.

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Everyday Etiquette: Great Britain

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Meeting People

In general the British prefer to be introduced to strangers, if at all possible wait for a third party introduction when meeting someone new.

Physical Greetings

Great Britain (especially England) is a non touching culture. When greeting someone a handshake accompanied by a "Pleased to meet you" is appropriate. When departing be sure to shake everyone's hand, a general group wave as is often done in the United States is not looked on favorably.

Physical Space

The British value space between one another.

Eye Contact

Strong eye contact is not overly common among strangers and casual acquaintances, too much eye contact is considered and invasion of privacy. Eye contact is used when one really wants to make a point, when speaking with close friends, and when interest in a person or topic wants to be stressed.

Good Topics of Discussion

If all else fails mention the weather!

Bad Topics of Discussion

Politics, religion, and sex. Also the common American question "what do you do?" is considered rude and too personal.

Communication Style

The British are a big fan of the understatement; this is shown in their choice of words ("indeed", "quite"), their volume (almost always quieter than other cultures) and body language (when first meeting facial expressions are kept to a minimum). Gestures are kept to a minimum and a polite self possessed manner is strived for.

Waiting in Line

Waiting in line (or queuing) is a never ending occurrence in the UK. You will find lines at every public facility, event, meet-up, etc. No matter how long the line is always go to the back and wait, and stay in line no matter how long it takes.

Walking

In the United Kingdom one walks on the left hand side and passes on the right.

Shopping

Customer service is not as "in your face" as it is in the United States. Generally a salesclerk will ignore you until eye contact is made signaling service is required.

When shopping at the grocery store be aware that if you touch the fruits or vegetables-you buy them.

Public Transportation

Always wait in line for a taxi, bus or train. When on the bus or train it is polite to give up your seat for the elderly, handicapped, pregnant women and parents with children.

When you board a taxi cab be sure to enter the cab from the opposite side of the driver and to sit in the back.

Tipping

Standard amounts are 10 to 15 percent. Services that are tipped are generally the same as those that are tipped for in the United States.

At a hotel bellmen are generally tipped 1 to 2 pounds per bag.

Appropriate Dress

Styles of dress are similar to those of the USA; however colors are often more muted (especially outside London).

Meal Time

Breakfast is typically from 7 to 9 AM.

A traditional "English Breakfast" is a large hearty meal consisting of: bacon, sausage ("bangers") toast/croissants/muffins/scones, juice, fried potatoes, eggs, cereal and juice. Tea & coffee are also commonly taken.

A traditional "Irish Breakfast" is called a "fry up" and consists of fried eggs, bacon (boiled pork, the name for American style "bacon" is "rashers") tomatoes, hot cereal, potatoes and juice.

Lunch is typically from 12 to 2 PM

Standard pub fare tend to make up Lunch-sandwiches, salads, etc.

High Tea & Regular Tea

Standard "Tea" is taken between 4 and 5 PM and consists of cakes, sweets, finger sandwiches and of course-tea.

Traditional High Tea is taken around 5 PM and is often a substitute for Dinner. High Tea includes all the fixings of a standard tea but includes a hot dish as well (pot pie, etc.)

Dinner is typically from 7-9 PM, with 8:00 being the traditional time. Formal dinners begin with an alcoholic drink followed by an appetizer.

Table Manners

The British do not switch their knife and fork as people do in the States. The fork remains in the left hand and the knife in the right hand.

Placing your utensils down on your plate signifies to wait staff that you are finished.

When not in use keep your hands in your lap and pass dishes to the left.

Who Pays?

In general the person who did the inviting is the person that pays.

Punctuality

It is very important to be on time.

Sir John Harrington - Inventor of "The John"

Sir John Harrington - Inventor of "The John"

In American slang, one of the terms used for toilet is "the john." Although the phrase "the john" was first used in the United States, the origin of the term can be traced back to its roots in England.

Sir John Harrington - Inventor of "The John"

Sir John Harrington

Sir John Harrington was born in 1561 in Somerset, England. He was a member of Queen Elizabeth I's court and was even identified as the Queen's "saucy grandson." He was also a writer and because of his literary works, his relationship with the Queen and her successor shifts in different directions.

His most famous literary work is "A New Discourse of a Stale Subject, called the Metamorphosis of Ajax." And even though he has established himself as a writer, he is still most known for his invention of the first flushing toilet.

His Family Life

Sir John Harrington is the son of poet John Harrington and his second wife, Isabella Markham. Because his mother was a gentlewoman of the Queen's privy chamber, he became one of the childless Queen's 102 godchildren.

It has not been established if Sir John Harrington is related to John Harrington, the first Baron Harrington of Exton. It is assumed, though, that he also belong to the descendants of the Lord Harrington of Aldingham.

John became attracted to the life at the Queen's court. With his free spirit and his writing talent, he was able to get Queen Elizabeth I's attention.

His Works

His first popular work was his translation of "Orlando Furioso" by Ariosto. Because of the sharpness of his initial translation, the Queen asked him to leave and not to return until he finished his work. The Queen did not expect him to comply because it was a difficult work. However, in 1591, he came back and was praised for the full translation of the poem.

Before he wrote his most popular work, "A New Discourse upon a Stale Subject: The Metamorphosis of Ajax," he invented the first flushing toilet in Britain. It was called "ajax" coming from the old English slang for toilet "a jakes." When he wrote the book, "A New Discourse upon a Stale Subject: The Metamorphosis of Ajax," he was referring to his invention. However, this work have political allusions which caused him to lose the favor of the Queen.

His Life as a Member of the Court

After the Queen's death, he spent time in prison because of his cousins debts. Later, King James I appreciated his loyalty and brought him back to his court as a Knight of the Bath.

It is interesting to find out how the toilet got its name. By knowing the roots of a word, students learn to appreciate the value of the invention and the richness of the language.

Renovating Small Bathrooms: 12 Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger

Renovating Small Bathrooms: 12 Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger

Wish your small bathroom was large and luxurious? Renovating a small bathroom may be easier than you think. These tips will make your old bathroom look new and, best of all, bigger.

Renovating Small Bathrooms: 12 Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger

Renovating Small Bathrooms: 12 Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger

1. KEEP THE FOOTPRINT You save big bucks when you keep the existing walls and tub. That does not mean you settle for less. ReMove the old tub and replace it with an oval insert or acrylic shower unit.

2. PAINT. Painting a bathroom is the cheapest update. Choose a pale color to reflect Light. According to REPAIR-HOME.COM "the best color is definitely off-white." However, pale blues, greens, and tans are also good color choices.

3. WHITE OUT WOODWORK. The Better Homes and Gardens Web site says painting woodwork the same color as the walls will make your woodwork "disappear." This monochromatic design approach will also unify your bathroom.

4. CLEAR THE WAY. De-clutter the space and get rid of frosted shower doors. Then, "the eye will see all the way to the back of the shower wall and the room will feel a lot bigger than it is," notes http://www.homefocused.com.

5. GET TECHNICAL. In the last few years solid surface technology has improved greatly. New
acrylic surfaces allow you to buff away scratches and sand away stains. Some acrylics are mold-proof, a big plus for small bathrooms.

6. BUILD UP. Bathroom designers tell clients to look upwards for extra space. Install extra shelves on top of a cabinet if possible, or a long shelf along one wall. Adding crown molding will draw the eyes upwards and create the illusion of space.

7. DOWNSIZE. Manufacturers are producing smaller tubs, showers, vanities, and Lights in response to market demands. These items are small in size and big in style.

8. CHANGE MIRRORS. The Home Focused Web site says "two mirrors placed opposite each other can give the illusion of never-ending space!" Framed mirrors are the trend today. If you can't reMove an existing mirror glue a frame around it. You may also hang a long mirror in the bathroom.

9. RE-TILE THE FLOOR. Surprisingly, large floor tiles make a small bathroom look bigger. Choose a textured tile to prevent slipping. Cover the skirt of the bathtub with a smaller version of the floor tile. Lay down an area rug if replacing tile is too costly.

10. USE EVERY INCH. Stick robe hooks and a laundry bag on the back of the bathroom door. Removing cabinet doors also creates the illusion of more space, according to http://www.decoratingyoursmallspace.com.

11. ADD ELEGANCE. One elegant touch -- glass tiles on the vanity, decorative tiles around the tub, a live fern on a stand -- will make the whole bathroom feel elegant. You deserve this elegance.

12. THINK RE-SALE. You never know when you have to Move, so think resale as you make your design decisions. Simple lines and neutral colors will appeal to future buyers.

American Standard Soaking Tubs Really Do Set the Standard

American Standard Soaking Tubs Really Do Set the Standard

When homeowners are considering a new tub, American Standard soaking tubs are at the top of the list. They've been there since1875. That was the year that the Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company was born. Over the years, Standard Sanitary absorbed several smaller plumbing parts manufacturers. Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Co. invented many of the bathroom fixtures that we take for granted today. They include built-in tubs, combination faucets (the type of faucets that mix hot and cold water together), and corrosion proof chrome finishes for brass fittings. In 1929 Standard Sanitary merged with American Radiator company to become the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corp. This made them the worlds largest manufacturer of bathroom fixtures. In 1967 the name was changed to what we know today, American Standard.

American Standard Soaking Tubs Really Do Set the Standard

American Standard Soaking Tubs Really Do Set the Standard

American Standard makes two models of tubs that are specifically called soaking tubs. One is the Reminiscence Slipper Soaking Tub. It's a claw foot single slipper back model that's made out of acrylic. It features a molded in headrest, arm rest and slip resistant bottom. While not as deep as some of the Asian models on the market today, it has a 34 gallons to overflow capacity with a depth of 14" to overflow. It's a very classic looking free standing tub.

The other designated soaker that American Standard makes is the Green Tea Bathing Pool. This model is a little more reminiscent of an Asian tub. It's made of acrylic backed with fiberglass and comes in both 5' and 6' models. Built into both models are neck rests and arm supports. This bathing pool is one of the bigger models that American Standard makes with a capacity of 79 gallons and 14" to overflow. The floor support where you put this model is a real consideration since the tubs weight with water is 744 lbs.

The final deep soaker in the lineup is the Evolution Bathing Pool. This is a rectangular fiberglass reinforced acrylic tub with built-in neck and headrests. This is the deepest tub in the lineup 18.5" and 54 gallons to overflow. This tub, like the Green Tea Bathing Pool, can be ordered as a therapeutic tub with jets.

While American Standard has a solid reputation overall, there have been problems reported. The primary complaints are that they're easy to chip, and that rust spots frequently occur around the drain. While these problems certainly don't surface with every tub, they are something to take into consideration.

American Standard soaking tubs are worth a close look when you're considering a new tub.

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

Does your shower have dirty, moldy and dingy looking grout and caulk? There are many ways to regrout and recaulk a shower or bath but there is really only one way to do the job properly so your shower will stay waterproof, stainproof and look beautiful for years to come.

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

How to Properly Regrout and Recaulk Your Shower Or Bath

First step is to thoroughly clean your tiles: Many dirty showers have soap scum accumulation which must be thoroughly cleaned before any regrouting procedure can begin. It is important to use a professional soap scum reMover product as well as a professional scrub pad to scrub away the dirt and soap scum from your shower walls and floor. Do not use any type of abrasive scrub pad as they may scratch your tiles. It can be helpful to utilize a professional steam cleaning machine in conjunction with the soap scum reMovers and scrub pads. A professional truckmounted steam cleaning machine is useful to accelerate the cleaning process but professional soap scum removers and scrub pads as well as a fair amount of elbow grease can be very effective in removing all of the soap scum from your shower walls and floor.

Second step is to remove the dirty, moldy grout and caulk: It is important to first remove all the old caulk from inside and around your shower. The best way to remove old caulk is to use a razor blade tool and scrape it all out from inside and around your shower. After the old caulk has been removed it is now time to remove the grout from your shower. There are many tools like a Dremel or Rotozip tool to do this but the hands down best tool is a Fein Multimaster or Supercut vibrating tool with a diamond bit. It is important to use the Fein tool on every grout line and clean every line with a stiff brush to make sure the new grout will have a firm base to adhere to.

Third step is to dry out your walls: In most cases some water and mold has gotten into your wall. It is therefore necessary to thoroughly and completely dry your shower walls before any regrouting procedure can take place. Do not attempt to regrout over top of a wet shower wall substrate. The water in your walls can continue to harbor dangerous mold and mildew. Also your grout will not set properly due to the moisture in your walls and will become discolored and flake away after a very short period of time. The best way to dry out your shower walls is with a professional dehumidifier for at least 3-7 days. This way you can be certain your shower walls will become dry and any mold and mildew present in your walls is killed before you begin regrouting.

Fourth step is to apply the grout to your shower: It is best to use a profession grout powder mixed with latex additive Do not use any premixed or ready to use products as these are vastly inferior and technically not cement products at all. It is best to go to a professional tile store and purchase your grouting supplies from an experienced salesman. Try to stay away from the big box home improvement stores as they have many inferior products and their sales people generally do not specialize in tile setting products.

Fifth step is to recaulk your shower: The caulk is the weakest link between water damaging your walls and floors so it is important to apply it correctly You should caulk between all tile wall planes and between and fixtures and the tiles. This will insure that water does not get between your tiles and into your walls and floor. It is best to use only 100% silicon caulks. 100% silicon caulk will last the longest and will not allow mold and mildew to grow like the cheaper water based latex or siliconized caulks.

Sixth step is sealing: It is important to seal your grout with a professional impregnating sealer. A high quality sealer will protect your grout from stains and also prevent mold and mildew from forming. Here again it is recommended that your purchase a professional sealer from a tile store and stay away from the cheaper sealers being sold at the big box stores.

Seventh step is to wait 72 hours: Wait 72 hours for your grout and caulk to fully cure and then go and enjoy your new looking shower. A regrouting procedure can be done by many homeowners with the proper tools and some handyman skills. It can also be very convenient and save a lot of headaches to have a professional tile and grout cleaning and restoration company to professionally regrout and recaulk your shower or bath.

How to Hire a Professional Regrouting Contractor: Make sure that your ask many questions of your potential regrouting contractor and do not settle for a cheap incomplete one day regrouting and recaulking procedure. One day regrouting procedures will look sloppy and the grout and caulk will fail in a short period of time. One day regrouting procedures also fail to address any potential water damage in your walls. Also do not accept any company that just skim coats new grout over the old grout. A skim coat procedure will not last and it will only be a short period of time before your skim coated grout starts to chip and flake away. Additionally the new grout will trap water between the two layers of grout causing your shower waterproofing system to fail. Check with your state labor and industries as well as the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to make sure your potential contractor is fully license and insured and does not have any unresolved Better Business Bureau Complaints that may be an indication of shoddy workmanship. For additional information about how our company performs its regrouting and recaulking services please visit Prestige Tile Care online.

Four Different Types of Rooms For a Cruise Ship Vacation

Four Different Types of Rooms For a Cruise Ship Vacation

Four Different Types of Rooms For a Cruise Ship Vacation

There are four different types of Alaskan cruise liners vacation rooms.

1) Interior Type of Room
The Interior type of room is the least expensive of these rooms. This is a type of room that is located on the interior area of the ship hence the name. It does not have any windows but it does have many of the features that a variety of different rooms on an Alaskan cruise liner will have. The general thing about these rooms is that there are usually single beds but in some cases there can be double beds available. What's more is that there can be two or four passenger rooms in different cases. Contacting the group that offers the cruise for more information is always a helpful thing to do.

2) Oceanview Room
An Oceanview room is another of the types of rooms found on Alaskan cruise ships. Although this type of room is going to be about the same size as an Interior room it will have a window for an impressive view of the ocean and other surroundings. This can be very comfortable when in some of the colder parts of Alaska.

3) Balcony Room
Balcony rooms are the third of these types of rooms. This room can be larger than that of a typical Interior or Oceanview room and in many cases can fit four people. What makes this different is that the passengers have a full outdoor balcony available for use. This allows for a personal and unique view of the ocean.

4) Suite Room
The last of these rooms is the Suite room. This is a staple of many Alaskan cruise ships. Suites can come in different sizes ranging from about three hundred square feet in size to more than a thousand. All sorts of unique features can be found in these rooms, including a full service bathroom with vanity area and dining tables.

The main difference between these rooms deals in an Alaskan cruise ships is more than just sizes and features. It also deals with costs. An Interior room can cost about 0 in many cases while an Oceanview room can be 0. Balcony rooms can be about a thousand dollars in value and suites can be worth hundreds more.

Coin Purity

Coin Purity

When looking for coin purity it is easy to mistake a counterfeit for a real coin. This is because unless you an expert in appraising or detecting fakes from real ones you will probably think it's the real one. One of the ways of faking a coin pureness is if it has been debased in some way. This is usually happens to coins in several ways but one of the most used ways would be substituting the lower base metals of the coin which is usually either platinum, silver or gold.

Coin Purity

Coin purity however can be detected in several different ways; however you still need to know what you are dealing with and how to handle it. If you are an expert you will certainly know if a coin has been substituted for another. With the change of the coin's dimensions and the constant diameter staying the same it will be easy to tell if the coin is a fake. However the height must either be thicker or thinner depending whether it is gold, silver or platinum because their thickness is not the same.

You can also the quality of the coin by the sound it makes when you drop it on a hard surface. Each metal has a different sound and really good experts know the different sounds the metals will make. If you are looking to find out coin purity then the sound the coin makes is the easiest to learn especially for beginners.

However as a beginner it's wiser to have an expert with you because there are some good counterfeiters out there and they are good at theirs jobs.

1950's Toys

1950's Toys

The 1950's was a popular decade and it was particularly popular for Toy manufactures and children alike. Quite a number of Toys which were first produced or designed in the 1950's went on to become famous and well known in today's world. Here are some of the most popular 1950's toys.

1950's Toys

1950's Toys

1950's Toys

1950's Toys

Mr. Potato Head - First produced and released to the general public in 1952, the first Mr. Potato Head came with actual Moveable face features. It's quite hard to believe, but children were actually meant to use the pieces with a real potato. Regardless, the toy at the time generated over million dollars worth of sales, and in today's terms, that equates to over Billion. Quite an impressive release!

The Hula Hoop - In the first year of its release it sold over 50 million hoops worldwide. Quite impressive for a simple circular toy! How the hula hoop was first produced remains unknown but it was first brought to the commercial world by a company called Wham-o. This toy has one of the defining elements of the 1950's - probably one of the more famous 1950's toys.

The Frisbee - The Wham-o company got lucky again inventing the world famous Frisbee. First came to be in Bridgeport, Connecticut, students would toss pie plates and since they were aerodynamic, they would float through the air - the Frisbee was born! The company the proceeded to make fortunes marketing and selling the discs!

Silly Putty - Like most of the famous toys created, this toy was created by accident. One American scientist working on a world war two project discovered the toy completely by accident. He found the substance to bounce and be quite versatile. In the 1950's the putty got into the hands of toy owner Ruth Fallgater, who subsequently marketed the item and went on to make millions. It's hard to believe the 1950's created some of our most famous toys.

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

Have you ever wondered what is meant by the term comfort height toilet? (I know, weird subject). When I worked at Home Depot as a Kitchen/Bath Designer I often helped customers in the plumbing aisles. One thing that I would always suggest when a customer was looking at buying a new toilet, or water closet as it is called in the Architectural Industry, was to look at buying a comfort height toilet.

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

Why Should You Choose a Comfort Height Toilet?

A comfort height toilet is one that is just a little bit higher than a regular toilet. (An average residential toilet is between 14" and 16" tall). The height of a comfort height seat can be found anywhere between 17" and 19" high. The best seat height is right at 18" but if you found a toilet that you really liked its features such as it will never clog or it is a low flow toilet then I would go with a height as close to the 18" as possible.

So, why make the Comfort choice? Because it is much easier getting on and off You do not have to have limited mobility either to appreciate the higher seat. It is easier on the legs while sitting if the seat is in the higher range. Of course, the size of the person using the bathroom should be considered if possible: if Aunt Mable is 4'-10", the Comfort Height would probably not provide comfort. Accessible limitations should be considered too.

Another good choice when choosing a new toilet is to choose the elongated bowl because it fits the shape of the human body more naturally than the round seat. The round bowl is reminiscent of out-houses. So, with those thoughts in mind, if you are remodeling your bathroom, consider your vast selection of toilet choices and consider those that are or will be using the toilet. It is easier to plan for the future and make some comfort choices now rather than having to do it later. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Take care.

Discover the Many Types of Chihuahua Dogs

If you love Chihuahuas, of course you'll want to know more about them. These fascinating animals originated in Chihuahua, Mexico and were objects of worship to the ancient Aztecs. The word "chihuahua" means an arid, sandy place and there are actually several types of Chihuahua dogs.

Discover the Many Types of Chihuahua Dogs

The Chihuahua in part due to their portable size have become quite popular lately and their popularity continues to grow. Although the Chihuahua is known as the smallest of the dog breeds, but what many people don't realize is there are different Chihuahua types. This little Powerhouse has a huge heart so don't be fooled by its tiny size!

Chihuahuas come in all sorts of colors, including chocolate, cream, silver, blue, black and fawn. Their heads can be shaped like deer or they can have apple heads. Applehead Chihuahuas have a very round head, a small snout, and close-set eyes. The ones with deer heads have an elongated nose similar to Doberman Pinschers.

The American Kennel Club recognizes long-haired and short-haired types of Chihuahuas. The smooth coat of the short-haired type sheds very little. Their tail is sometimes curved. Long-haired Chihuahuas can have flat or curly hair, and it is quite soft, with extra fluff around the tail and ears.

The terms "teacup" and "mini" when applied to Chihuahuas are merely commercial designations used to try to elicit high prices from the buyer. All Chihuahuas are genetically a Toy breed, and breeding to produce the tiniest dog possible is a long-established custom. Don't be fooled into paying more for a Chihuahua merely because of its description.

It's easy to understand why Chihuahuas are the 10th most popular dog in the United States, since they're such an intelligent dog, and fiercely protective of their owners. Standard Chihuahuas today weight six pounds or less, and are six to nine inches tall. The darling tan dog that starred in the Taco Bell commercial is representative of the most popular type of Chihuahua.

If you live in an apartment, you couldn't do better than to get one of these tiny dogs. They are wonderful companions and live a long life, in many cases getting to be 16 years or older. Shorthaired companions may need a little extra warmth, sometimes burrowing under covers to maintain their body heat while asleep. My friend has a Chihuahua that will growl whenever anyone has the audacity to uncover her.

It is believed that Chihuahuas may be the oldest breed of dog to exist in the American continents. A sLighter larger breed of Chihuahua existed in the 2nd century BC, and was known as a symbol of the upper class. It was probably bred with Miniature Chinese dogs which the Spanish introduced to the New World.

Whichever type of Chihuahua dog you find, you owe it to yourself to think about taking one of these small devoted dogs home with you; you will find them to be entertaining and companionable pets for many years to come. In addition, once you buy one Chihuahua, you will want to get another!

How Many Disabled Americans Are There?

How Many Disabled Americans Are There?

Imagine taking the entire population of Florida and combining it with the entire population of California. That is quite a lot of people. In fact, it is over 54 million people and 19 percent of the United States population, or in other words, one out of every five Americans. According to the United States Census Bureau, it is the same amount of people who reported at least some level of disability in the year 2005. The numbers from the census were definitely up from the last census taken in 2002.

How Many Disabled Americans Are There?

While not all people reporting disabilities were found to be severely disabled, nearly 35 million were indeed classified as severely disabled. In addition, nearly 11 million of those with disabilities that were age 6 years and older needed help with everyday activities, such as taking a shower or bath and getting around inside the home.

The census also found that many disabled people are still holding jobs. In the age group of people 21 to 64, nearly 46 percent were still employed. Thirty-one percent of people with severe disabilities were employed, and 75 percent of those with disabilities labeled as non-severe were employed.

While many people automatically think of physical limitations such as being in a wheelchair when they think of disabilities, more than 16 million of those with disabilities were classified as having difficulty with mental functioning, emotional functioning and cognitive functioning. This group of disabled people included those who are severely anxious or depressed, and those who have issues concentrating, dealing with stress, and functioning in social situations.

The census found that the likelihood of having a disability increased with age. Over 18 million adults over the age of 64 were disabled in 2005. Out of that 18 million, almost 13 million were labeled as having a severe disability. For those 80 years old and older the likelihood increased; Seventy-one percent of people over 80 were disabled, and 56 percent of those were severely disabled.

Although it is more likely that older Americans will be disabled, there were still many children with disabilities involved in the census. Parents reported a whopping 475,000 children with disabilities from age 3 to 5 years old, and 228,000 children age 3 or under were reported as having a disability.

Delivering Food to a Family after the Death of a Loved One

Delivering Food to a Family after the Death of a Loved One

I have delivered food to grieving families and you probably have, too. Once I delivered a large casserole of beef stew with burgundy, something I would not do now. For after having two family members die on the same weekend I have a different slant on food deliveries. Food is appreciated, but I think we need to update the custom, and here are my suggestions.

Delivering Food to a Family after the Death of a Loved One

Delivering Food to a Family after the Death of a Loved One

1. CALL FIRST. You don't know how much food has already been delivered. The refrigerator and freezer may be full and additional food will cause problems. Before you make anything call and see if the family needs food. When a church friend called I turned down her offer of food. "It's all we can do to eat a scrambled egg," I explained.

2. FIX FAMILIAR FOODS. My husband and I were so overcome with grief that we had upset stomachs. We hardly ate anything and when we did it was simple stuff like tomato soup. Spicy food may not be the best choice at this time. Rather, deliver familiar foods -- clear soups, custard, fresh fruit -- things that go down easily.

3. CONSIDER PORTION SIZES. Some family members appreciated food deliveries, but others were overwhelmed by the portion sizes . Dividing food into small portions encourages family members to eat. Packaging food in small freezer containers is also helpful.

4. OFFER TO SHOP. Going to the grocery store after my daughter was killed in a car crash took all the courage I had. I would meet friends at the store and burst into tears when they expressed sympathy. Offer to pick up some groceries for the family the next time you shop. Tell them when you will deliver the groceries.

5. CHECK BACK LATER. After the death of a loved one family members are overwhelmed with legal and financial tasks. They may run out of milk or find they are short of basic supplies like toilet paper. Contact the family again and see if they need anything.

6. NO THANKS NECESSARY. Years ago, when our family was in crisis, a church friend gave us some soup. A note was taped to the top of the bowl and it said, "No thanks are necessary. I wanted to do this for you." This is a stressful time for all family members. Telling them that no thanks are necessary helps to relieve their stress.

Delivering food is a time-honored custom and one worthy of continuing. The best food you can provide is food for the soul and the words, "I'm so sorry."

Vastu Tips for Money Matters

When your financial Movement is slow or stagnant, keep at least one Light on throughout the night. Things will certainly brighten up. Light is yang energy, which speeds up things.

According to Vastu

Fish aquariums are wonderful for wealth. Choose the active, lively and healthy fishes and make sure that they are strong swimmers. Keep the water clean and aerated. Their constant Movement keeps the energy of wealth also on the Move.

Vastu Shastra says if the entrance to your apartment lies at the end of a long corridor, then the energy flowing of a long corridor, then the energy flowing towards it will be too fierce. Adding too much risk to your financial investments. Its effect can be softened with a plant placed halfway down the corridor.

Make your front door distinctive to attract wealth within. Paint it a colour that shows it is different from the neighbouring walls.

Vastu Tips for business

If business is bad, place decorative boulders or curved pathways or pebbles around the structure. This will increase the Movement of financial energy.

Are you looking for more clarity in your financial life? Take a look at your windows, mirrors and your glass and crystal items. It's amazing what clean windows can do for the balance sheet. Dirty glass restricts money flow.

Hanging crystals in your window activates energy. When the sunLight hits them, they produce the most amazing rainbows. Choose a window the gets direct sunLight. This will throw up a multitude of openings for your career growth.

Vastu Tips for money matters

If you find your expenses beyond control, place live plants or grains in the toilets, these keep the money from going down the toilet, because symbolically growing things reabsorb water energy and keep it recycling.

Hang a mirror to reflect your cash box or locker. It symbolically doubles your wealth and opportunities.

Vastu Shastra suggests that place a birdbath or feeder in the yard to attract wild life, which will increase the amount of energy around your home. Birdbaths and bird feeders are wonderful acts of cleaning up your finances and attracting prosperity from all directions.

Vastu Tips for prosperity

If money seems to disappear from your life, put some weighty or solid objects in the far-left corner of the room or house, plus extra light.

Need Increased prosperity? An energy boost? A fountain with the soothing sound of moving water is just the thing for you. Whether on a desk or in an important room, nothing attracts money and reliable luck like a water fountain, running water helps move positive energy through the space. However take care not to direct the water flow towards the exit.

Penthouse Magazine

Penthouse Magazine

In the world of "Smut" Magazines and Pornography, Penthouse by far ranks among the best in male entertainment on the market. Penthouse is a men's magazine founded by creator Bob Guccione combining the imagery of urban lifestyle articles and 'soft-core' pornography pictorials, evolving into hardcore pictorial content in the 1990s, more stimulating than similar magazines at the time. Even though Guccione was an American, the magazine was founded in the UK in 1965. Soon after the release, the magazine hit the states and was soon sold in the U.S. where it achieved numerous positive acceptances. At the height of success, Guccione was considered to be one of the richest men in the United States.

Penthouse Magazine

For a number of years, Penthouse Magazine fell between Playboy and Hustler magazine with regards to explicitness and it's attitude toward sexual depictions. Playboy was visually softer and didn't focus so much on female genitals, where Hustler contained much raunchier content usually consisting of toilet humor. From the beginning, Penthouse magazine pictorials showed an exuberant array of female genitals when this was considered by many to be obscene. Although Penthouse magazine attempted to maintain some level of reading relevancy, the content was much more sexually oriented nature than Playboy.

In 1998, with the wide spread of pornography on the internet, growing popularity of non-explicit "men's magazines" such as Maxim came in the scene. With that said Penthouse magazine decided to alter its content and actually begin featuring more sexually explicit pictures. This new format lost subscriptions and newsstand circulation of the magazine.

Under the editorship of Tom Hilditch, the magazine was rebranded and newly relaunched as a middle-shelf "adult magazine for grown-ups". Fashion photographers were hired to produce imagery that merged fashion and sex together to create a look that was sexually oriented. The magazine started to contain interviews, tackling current sexual issues and politics. This experimentation attracted a great deal of interest from the press however in the end was unsuccessful to generate a significant increase in sales.

In August of 2003, General Media, which was the parent company of the magazine, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In October 2003, Penthouse magazine was being put up for sale. In October of 2004, General Media freed itself from dept and newly named itself the Penthouse Media Group. The magazine is now owned by two investors that have created an iconic, reconstituted magazine of class and sophistication.

Nutritional Cleansing Removes the Underlying Cause For Obesity and Chronic Disease

Nutritional Cleansing Removes the Underlying Cause For Obesity and Chronic Disease

Did you know that prolonged internal inflammation is the driving force behind obesity as well as most age-related diseases? You can't always see it because it exists at a molecular level. Doctors usually use laboratory tests to confirm it and then assign a name to the condition based on the results. The number of disease names related to inflammation is horrifying: allergies, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple sclerosis, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome and Chrohn's, to name a few.

What Does Chronic Inflammation Feel Like?

Over 75% of Americans suffer from persistent internal inflammation, Common symptoms include:

• lethargy

• inability to focus

• sluggishness

• chronic pain and stiffness

• loss of organ function

• accumulated fat around the waist

• dry, irritated skin

• acne

• an inability to lose excess weight

• an out-of-control hunger for junk food

How Do Body Cells Become Inflamed?

Chemicals and toxins are the primary cause of cellular inflammation, weight gain, and disease. Every day, our bodies absorb thousands of toxins from the air we breathe, the water we drink, genetically modified foods, pesticides, grain fed meat and dairy, preserved flour products, MSG (monosodium glutamate), micro-waved foods, refined sugar, saturated fats, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, alcohol, electromagnetic radiation, heavy metals, industrial chemicals, prescription drugs, stress, and more! These toxins accumulate over time inside our bodies, causing the liver and kidneys to overwork, kind of like an engine burning polluted fuel. Our bodies struggle to perform under these stressors and overheat in the process. In order to avoid "engine failure", immune cells in the digestive tract signal the production of inflammatory chemicals and fat cells to isolate and sequester the toxins so they can't do any more damage to the engine. How many fat cells our bodies manufacture is a direct result of how many chemicals and toxins have accumulated inside us. The most visible result of toxic overload is uncontrolled weight gain. Microscopically, however, the situation is far worse. The receptor sites that control the opening and closing of cell pores (like doors into our houses) begin to rust shut (oxidation). Even if we switch to eating a healthy diet, the nutrients we consume can't get into the inflamed fat cells. Nor can the toxins get out. The result is an overweight body that doesn't feel good at all.

Regular Internal "House Cleaning" Disperses Inflammation And Evacuates Toxins

To reduce cellular inflammation, we need to clean the outside as well as the inside of all the inflamed cells in our bodies. What if we looked at this assignment as if we were "spring cleaning our homes"? I like to think of my body as my "house". Each cell is a "mini house" that has to be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis in order to avoid the destruction produced by accumulating dirt, grime, rust and rot. Imagine what would happen if I never dusted or vacuumed my house, never cleaned the stove or refrigerator; never scrubbed the toilets, shower or sinks; never replaced the filters for the A/C or Heating systems. My house would fall apart! Likely, yours would too.

"Nutritional Cleansing" Is An Effective Safe Method To ReMove Inflammation And Toxicity

Cleansing the body's insides by "fasting" has been practiced by most cultures since time began. But previous societies didn't face the degree of toxicity in their food and environment that we face today. Starving the body is not the answer. Nutritional Cleansing is a more recent concept. It encourages a faithful regime of healthy food choices alternating with weekly or monthly 24-hour juice fasts. For one day a week (at least in the beginning) we give our bodies a liquid "spring cleaning".

My Personal Experience With Isagenix

After searching for answers to my own weight and inflammatory issues, I found that a juice designed by John Anderson, the nutritional formulator at Isagenix works incredibly well. He incorporates ancient Ayurvedic and Chinese herbs into what he describes as a "super juice". It appears that the systemic enzymatic actions in the herbs dissolve the 'rusty hinges' of cellular oxidation, reduce inflammation at the receptor sites, and thereby permit cell pores to open and receive nutrients. Some herbs clean out the accumulated toxins from inside the cells. Other herbs gently transport debris out of the body via the bowels and urination. John's juice formula - "Cleanse For Life" - incorporates a carefully chosen group of natural botanicals and trace minerals into a foundation of ionic aloe vera and alfalfa juice. These nutrients restore the structural integrity of the cells and promote normal activity.

The Benefits I Experienced From Participating In A 30-day Nutritional Cleansing Program

The Isagenix program John designed is easy to follow. For six days, two of my daily meals consisted of delicious whey protein shakes. The third meal was up to me to devise from low-calorie fresh vegetables, fruits, legumes, and small portions of meat or fish. Day seven was my "cleanse day", a chance for my body to unload and evacuate toxins and revitalize normal cellular function. It consisted of four servings of "Cleanse for Life" juice spaced throughout the day. Balanced healthy snacks were provided and carefully timed in between juice servings so that I never experienced hunger or fatigue. In the following three weeks, this cycle was repeated, 6 days of shakes followed by one day of cleansing, etc. The effects I noticed (and I would say that my results are typical) were reduced cravings for sugar and junk food, better focus and concentration, much better energy and stamina, improved sleep patterns, softer skin and a healthier immune system. Best of all, my chronic arthritic pain subsided by 50%. Consequently, I decided to continue to cleanse for 90 more days, (repeating the Isagenix 30-day program 3 more times). During that time, I lost an average of 2 lbs a week and have kept it off for three years now. Garden-fresh foods and a sensible exercise program have contributed to maintaining this success, but I believe the nutritional cleansing eradicated the inflammatory cause for most of my health issues. Many of my patients who have also tried the program would happily agree.

How to Stop Your Cat's Urination Problems

How to Stop Your Cat's Urination Problems

Having your cat urinating all over your home can be extremely troublesome. Especially when it happens after you thought you had successfully litter trained your cat. Rather than getting angry, it may be more appropriate for you to be worried. You should strongly consider taking kitty for a check-up at the vet. There are a number of diseases which can cause your cat to suddenly start urinating uncontrollably. One of these diseases is a urinary tract infection which could be potentially fatal if left untreated. As a matter of fact, any sudden change in kitty's behavior merits a visit to the vet, just in case.

How to Stop Your Cat's Urination Problems

How to Stop Your Cat's Urination Problems

How to Stop Your Cat's Urination Problems

How to Stop Your Cat's Urination Problems

While kitty peeing outside the litter box is an obvious clue, you should also be on alert about your cat's urination habits. If you notice kitty making more trips to the litter box than normal, or releasing a greater than usual volume of urine, or its urine having a different smell, etc, all these are warning signs of illness. If you truly love your cat, then you need to be vigilant about its health.

Once ill health has been ruled out, you need to look into environmental factors. The most obvious one is moving house. There are one or two cat owners who somehow failed to realize that their cats became confused and could not find the litter box in their new homes. Or simply did not like the new location of the litter box. In any case, if you Move house, be prepared to litter train your cat all over again.

Any number of factors could cause stress to your cat and cause it to urinate away from its litter box, even something as subtle as a change in your working schedule. On the one hand, this is rather inconvenient to you. On the other hand, a part of me would be happy, because this shows that kitty misses me and cares about me. It's nice to know that you are more than just the person who fills kitty's food dish, isn't it? Anyway, if you cannot reMove the cause of kitty's stress, you will just have to toilet train your cat again. Besides this, you may want to learn cat massage. Just like for humans, massage can soothe away some of your cat's stress. If all else fails, you may need to get a something from your vet to help soothe kitty. However, I strongly advise against aromatherapy or the use of massage oils unless your vet can recommend a safe brand. Cats are often sensitive to such oils and scents. There have been cases of poisoning reported.

Something that few people think about is the litter. Just because you still buy the same brand does not mean the manufacturer is still making the litter exactly the same. There could be major or even just minor changes to the final end product, and it could be noticeable to your cat. Remember that its sense of touch and smell is much better than yours.

The problem could even be the litter box. Are your cat still using the same litter box as when it was a kitten? Or has your cat grown old... You may need to try a different-sized litter box.

Did I mention that smell is important? Did you change the cleaner you used to wash the litter box? Are you cleaning the area around the litter box with a different cleaner? Perhaps kitty hates the smell of the new cleaning product and that is why it is urinating elsewhere. Or did you use a different cleaning product for your house. The new cleaner could be confusing kitty.

Your cat is a sensitive creature of habit. First, you need to eliminate health problems as the cause of your cat's urination problem. After that, it takes time and patience and loving care to investigate the cause of the problem. A case study published by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (JAVMA, Vol 224, No. 10, May 15, 2004) reported that they took several years to resolve the problem. Partly it was because the cat in question had health problems. The vet needed to try different medications which would both clear up the medical conditions as well as not cause the cat to urinate uncontrollably. At the same time, there was no stability in the home environment. The owner got a divorce, and found a new boyfriend. And apparently some stray cats Moved into the neighborhood.
