Obama Toilet Paper - Un-American, Or Unabashedly American?

When it comes to inflammatory political novelties, there is arguably none more divisive than the recent E-commerce phenomenon of Barack Obama toilet paper.

Obama TP has been a surprise retail hit on the internet, and with good reason, surely owing its success, to some degree, to the 24 hour cable news cycle, and it's perpetually livid and angrily opinionated personalities. With aggressive vitriol being the new journalistic norm, all manner of politically incendiary retail merchandise has seen a recent boon in sales, with Obama Toilet Paper leading the Charge. However not everyone is thrilled with this particular products sudden national popularity and proliferation. Some have argued marketing toilet paper imprinted with the current sitting president's face plastered on each and every sheet is somehow un-American, or improper, especially given the current venomous political climate.

American Toilet

On the surface this certainly seems like a reasonable position to take, given the unique nature of toilet paper, and the connotations associated with its normalized usage. However, could a convincing case could be made that Obama T.P. is not at all a blemish the U.S. retail resume, but rather the epitome and embodiment of real authentic Americana? In a world where dictatorial regimes and military strongmen routinely vanquish political dissent with an iron fist, and streets so often run red with the blood of those that dared to speak out against the status quo, perhaps Obama T.P. should be viewed not as a political sLight, but rather as a monument to freedom, a retail testament to all the liberties America represents? One could imagine that to those living under the full weight of true violent suppression, the very concept of openly using the image of a currently emPowered political figure to cleanse themselves would be the ultimate mind bending cultural juxtaposition.

To the oppressed, presidential toilet paper would likely represent nothing less than the very pinnacle of freedoms they strive to one day achieve. So maybe Obama Toilet Paper should not be frowned upon at all, but rather propped up, held high as a beacon to the world - and lauded as an unabashedly genuine slice of America. It's admittedly hard to pinpoint any other singular product that better exemplifies not only the concept of free market innovation and ingenuity, but also the unparalleled freedoms which function as the very bedrock of our American democracy.

Love it or hate it, Obama T.P. is clearly here to stay. In fact, now days this popular political toiletry has even got its own trademark jingle, the Obama Toilet Paper song.
